In 2013, Venture Capital Funding of the Software Industry broke records with 11 billion dollars, the highest investment in the software sector since the Dot Com bubble burst in 2000 and a 27% increase from 2012. According to MoneyTree’s annual report, the software sector captured 37% of total venture capital for the year, which is the highest percentage recorded since MoneyTree’s inception in 1995. Software investment is up 27% from 2012. The report found that venture capitalists invested $29.4 billion in 3,995 deals in 2013, an increase of 7 percent in dollars and 4 percent increase in deals over 2012. Internet-specific companies also soared last year, raising $7.1 billion, which is the biggest amount since 2001.
