In 1984, Phil Moorby and Prabhu Goel of gateway design automation create Verilog. A hardware description language that is used in the design of digital circuitry. The company developed a logic simulator and with it a hardware description language. Gateway design automation was acquired by Cadence in 1989 which released the Verilog Hardware Description Language (HDL) into the public domain the following year. Verilog is one of two hardware systems that is currently used to design complex digital systems.
