The IBM 360 marks the age of modern computer. IBM launched system 360. The 19 models of computers were the first family of computers with consistent architecture, they could use the same peripherals and the same software, making it easier to move to a large computer within the range and to move on to new models as they were released. The s/360 transitioned into the s/370 and then the s/390 and then into today’s zseries machines. A piece of software written for the s/360 will run on a zseries today. s/360 became the most successful computer in history. It introduced a variety of innovations such as the first transaction processing system and the first use of solid logic technology.
