1964-BASIC

basicThomas Kurtz and John Kemeny create BASIC (Beginners All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) this was an easy to learn programming language for students at Dartmouth college who did not have previous experience with programming.  BASIC spread to schools all over the world and a decade later, most personal computers included a version of BASIC in the system. This introduced programming to a whole new audience.
